Madeleine was born in 1995 on Mustique Island.
She was educated in Dorset and trained in traditional portraiture for three years at Charles Cecil Studios in Florence. It was here that she learned the traditional style of painting from life under natural light (and to speak Italian!).
Madeleine's talent extends well beyond depicting the horses in front of her. Painting always from life, Madeleine is able to offer not only an accurate representation of the horses, but an honest insight into what makes each of them special.
"I concentrate on painting horses life size in a traditional style, always from life, using my own hand ground paints and hand stretched canvases. I feel this style helps me to achieve an expressive representation which is unparalleled by modern photo realistic paintings." (Madeline, on her technique)
Madeleine has adored horses all her life, and this love lends an emotional, passionate quality to her work. For Madeleine, it is imperative to know the horse she paints. It is her willingness and ability to connect with her subjects that makes her art so special.
The last few years have been extremely busy for Madeleine. Word has travelled fast, and she has been commissioned to paint all around the U.K., as well as in the United States and Italy. She is tireless and conscientious, and hopes to announce exciting projects in the near future - stay tuned!
"Just to say your fabulous picture has been a huge success. Jonty loves it so much - as well as being a wonderful picture that he will enjoy for ever, it has also captured a special moment in his life. Simon has meant a great deal to him - and to have the memories immortalised in this way is incredibly special. Thank you so much. I am so very grateful. Plus - it is a VERY good picture - a great likeness and full of character and strength." (Davis Pease)
"Madeleine is a phenomenal and extremely talented equestrian artist...her attention to detail in her portraits is inspiring." (Hannah Freeland)
